Doug Ford Gave Patronage Appointments to 40% of Failed 2018 PC Candidates

Doug Ford’s Gravy Train is running at full speed

TORONTO — Since the 2018 election, Doug Ford has given patronage appointments to almost 40% of his available failed candidates. Despite the PC government promising to make changes to its appointments process, six of these Conservative appointments were made after the Dean French patronage scandal in 2019.

Of the 41 failed PC candidates who were available for an appointment, 16 have been given roles in the government by the Ford Conservatives.

Here are some examples of Doug Ford’s patronage appointments:

  • Former Ford Conservative Orléans candidate Cameron Montgomery was appointed as the first-ever full-time Chair of the EQAO board, making $140,000 per year. Since he was appointed in early 2019, he’s taken home almost $450,000 from his taxpayer-funded salary. In contrast, a previous EQAO chair said that in his position, he was reimbursed roughly $1,200 in travel-related expenses.
  • Former Ford Conservative Niagara Falls candidate Chuck McShane was appointed as commissioner of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. He’s now been elected Vice-Chair. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He faced a $1,200 fine and a one-year licence suspension. He now sits as Vice-Chair.

Doug Ford always finds a way to look after his friends, whether they be donors, for-profit long-term care owners, or defeated Conservative candidates.

Doug Ford claiming he was for the people was probably the biggest lie told in the last campaign.
